Go

The Mission Chattanooga is a fellowship of missionaries.  As his family, God commissions us to be a people who “GO” with Him on mission. In many ways it is our other commitments of Belonging, Growing, and Serving, that prepare us to go out and be God’s ambassadors in the world. Our staff and lay leadership is dedicated to supporting and equipping our fellowship to live out this purpose. We seek to reveal God’s kingdom by stewarding His goodness, truth and beauty in our neighborhood, our city and the world.

Culture & Work

Why do human beings exist? In Genesis we read that God created mankind in his image in order to rule and subdue the Earth (Genesis 1:26-28). Therefore, part of what it means to be made in God’s image is to create, cultivate, and steward. This is called the Cultural Mandate. The earth was given to us full of latent possibilities, possibilities that can only be realized when God’s people bring forth its ultimate good. A good analogy here is wine. Grapes are a wonderful part of creation. But it is only when God’s image-bearers realize the latent possibility within the grape that we get wine. In other words, human culture is fundamentally good and intended by God from the beginning.

So at the Mission we want to be about creating good culture here in Chattanooga and we do that primarily through the work and investment in The Camp House. Good music, beautiful art, delicious food & coffee, and places that bring people together, these are all aspects of human culture that are pleasing to God.

We also want to be about equipping each one of you to engage your own work as redemptive and good. Regardless of the profession or the job, our work contributes to the common good and is therefore one of the primary ways we are called to love and serve our neighbor. Work, like culture, is pleasing to God.
